Friday Night Lights - Rekindle the Tradition Blessings

Making the traditional blessings for Shabbat isn't difficult but it is one of the very best ways to not only announce Shabbat but to reconnect with your family and friends.

It has been said that the woman of the home holds the real power.  So, if this Shabbat, even if you've never lit candles before, announce to the family that on this Friday Night you would appreciate it if the family could have a dinner together.  It will happen.  And the reward will be great.

Go ahead...try if for a month.  It will be an amazing blessing for your entire family.  We promise.

It is entirely permissible for each member of the family to light their own candles.  The most common method is to have at least two candles.  Strike a match or, as in the photo, use a "lighter" candle and touch the flame to each wick.  Then, when the room is quiet, wave your hands in front of the flame as if to bring it close to you.  Cover your eyes and say this blessing:

Baruch a-tah Adonai Eloheinu, melekh ha'olam  (Blessed are you Lord our God ruler of the Universe)

asher kidishanu b'mitz'votav v'tzivanu  (Who has sanctified us with His commandments, and commanded us

l'had'lik ner shel Shabbat. (to light the lights of Shabbat)
